Design is a specification or a plan for the construction of an object or system or the implementation of an activity or process, or the result of that plan or specification in the form of a prototype, product, or process. The verb design tends to express the process of developing a design.

Lilo Web Design Agency told us that in design, trends matter a lot, those changes in style and the direction of our industry. Whilst we think of the trends changing our designs now as something contemporary, they have all been used in concept in the past. It was often in other forms of art, and design as one of the newer genres is sampling from the experimentation gone through, the older ones-like painting. The graphic design world in 2020 is feeling a lot more reserved, harmonious, and natural. Design styles that were unique just a few years ago have become just another tactic used by massive corporations.

The biggest graphic design trends of 2020 are;

3d depth and realism

Going monochrome

Shiny metals

Typography craze

Image and text masking

Line art

Collages of drawings and photos

Simplified illustrations

Isometric illustrations

Earthy colors; a sense of vintage

Patterns and textures

3d depth and realism

The 3D trend and realism reached its peak in 2019, and it certainly won’t fade away so quickly. With the opportunities of modern technology and software capabilities, we will keep seeing more awesome 3D graphic design compositions. Even more, in order to be more creative, designers will often combine it with other realities, such as photos and 2- dimensional objects.

Going monochrome

We have seen a trajectory and a tendency of graphic and web designers to use a monochromatic color effect on pictures. A monochrome colour filter is widely used on partial elements or photos in graphic composition.

Shiny metals

Metallic materials usage in graphic design has established us ultra-trendy for branding identity and product design. The rule of thumb is that the trend requires an overall minimalist design since the focus falls on the metallic effect itself. Were noticing the designers mostly use gold-it conveys luxury, class, and good taste. However, the metallic effect can also be achieved by using shinny surfaces over matte surfaces in any color.  Branding specialists do combine this trend with relief engraving for brand identity with physical materials such as business cards to make them more impressive.

Typography craze

To create a more innovative and modern composition, designers keep playing with typography big time. The trend is expected to flourish in 2020 and beyond. Figuratively and literally! Decorated geometric shapes, beautiful flowers, and more creative elements, artistic typography is certainly the perfect solution to nail the attention. When combined with the maxi typography trend from graphic design trends 2019, artistic typography in 2020 will really stand out. In maxi typography, the trend has certainly proved as a stable one, and we’ll keep seeing it. In fact, in 2020, going forward, maxi typography will make designers split the words into multiple lines when it comes to designing.

Image and text masking

Image and text masking is an old adage technique to the design world, but it still looks quite modern in 2020. A large portion of the images behind unrevealed helps achieve a mysterious and minimalist look. Designers keep creating compositions with image and text masking, of course, sticking to maxi typography for the latter in order to achieve the desired effect.

Simplified illustrations

Illustrations in graphic design offer designers the freedom to express their artistic nature. In fact, designers tend to incorporate Illustrations to convey concepts and ideas and communicate messages better. When it comes to graphic design trends in 2020 are experiencing simple illustrations that will be a top choice. The lack of detail allows designers time to focus not on the art itself but the message it conveys. Illustrations in design often look oversimplified, sketchy, and even childish.

Line art

The trend of outline typography and elements which have been quite mass during 2018. It is now evolving into fully illustrated and animated line art patterns and designs. In its essence, line art is a schematic, simplified illustration style. As such, it is great conveying concepts and ideas. It looks clean, elegant, and unobtrusive. Line art is one of the preferred decoration styles in graphic design trends 2020.

Collages of drawings and photos

We’ve been witnessing a quite interesting and creative trend in graphic design which reminds us of the drawings we used to make on our notebooks in school, i.e., doodling has started as a fun trend in the world of illustration but quickly became such a hit that we sit on designs all over the web. Designers have been combining real-life photos with simple illustrations replacing parts of the photo or interacting with the photo.

Isometric illustrations

Isometric illustrations have been in the listing of trends for many years, and logically, they have gone through many transformations. Often used for infographic design, web design, and presentation design, they are the preferred style because of their capability to illustrate a 3-dimensional object on a 2- dimensional surface. In 2020, motion is everything. Isometric graphic design evolves into a fully animated and super engaging visual solution. The translation of 3D objects over 2D surfaces lately has become more real than ever. It is expected that isometric design will keep evolving to a point where it looks like an actual 3D that moves and plays with the audience.

Earthly colors: a sense of vintage

Everything new is well forgotten old. However, it’s definitely hard not to forget the amazing 50’s is a huge source of inspiration for designers. By using earthy colour nuances and hand-drawn ink illustrations, web and graphic designers are creating compositions that convey the home- feeling of 50’s designs. Retro designs are examples in modern times. The vintage style is used in brand identity and package design, typography, and lettering. Going forward, we will be experiencing a blast from the past with new wave and trends. Designers are upbeat on their game in order to win clients due to stiff competition as they try to stay afloat.
