The next common protein purification methods include the use of ion exchange and carbon precipitation. Ion exchange uses an electrode to remove ions from biological samples. These ions are attached to the target protein molecules using electrostatic potentials. Carbon precipitation is used to eliminate heavy metals in biological samples. The metal ions can be removed by the use of carbon granules, which are attached to the target protein molecules. Both methods have very low loss rates and are highly efficient.

Protein separation and filtration systems using a combination of these two techniques are also becoming more popular. In the case of protein separation, the process is called fractional agglomeration. It involves the use of two filters with one having smaller particles than the other. One of these filters (the larger particle filter) contains the target protein while the other (the smaller particle filter) absorbs the water molecules. in the larger particle. The resulting liquid is then passed through the first filter before passing through the second, which removes the water molecules from the resulting protein.

Protein purification using ion exchange and carbon precipitation methods is commonly combined with other protein purification methods. Some of these methods combine the process with electrodialysis and magnetic bead precipitation, which are usually combined for a single step in order to obtain a high degree of efficiency and lower cost. Electrodialysis uses an electrical charge on the target protein to attach the charge to the membrane of a bead. Magnetic beads contain metallic ions and are attached to the membrane of the bead. The ions attached to the bead cause the electric charge to change the electrical charge of the bead, resulting in a drop in the charge.

The bead is then passed through the protein and the membrane is passed between the beads. Electron and energy are introduced into the bead's electrons, causing it to emit light. This emission of light is collected by the bead and passes through the bead. The light is captured by a fluorescent sensor. and an image of the bead's interior is created and the result is a bead's image.

Ion exchange and carbon precipitation can also be combined with enzymatic hydrolysis to remove any contaminants from biological samples. These methods are not appropriate for the removal of some foreign matter that may have been introduced into the sample during the filtration process. This material could be in the form of bacteria, parasites, fungi or any other microorganism.
