Magnificent pyramids, lush gardens, colossal statues, and sacred temples. Few would deny that these things are wondrous. But, more than that, the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World are monuments to their cultures’ technological achievements, people’s respect for their own history and heritage, their marvel at invention, their fears, memories, and imaginations. Not just beautiful, or awe-inspiring, these places are the tangible displays of their cultures’ most valued beliefs and abilities.

We will travel through several thousand years of history, around the Mediterranean and Near East, exploring archaeological evidence and ancient stories to investigate just what makes these Seven Wonders so special. Anyway, why seven of them? And why make such a list? And just what is a "wonder"?
